Yes, my life is in transition. I am now getting used to life as a widow. What will this bring? Time will tell.

Hand Stamped by Jeanette

Spray Starch Technique

I loosely followed the sketch at Scrolls Work and I used all Inka Stamps
that can be purchased there. The background is done with
spray starch and gold Pearl Ex. I followed the directions more closely
this time and I got a completely different result. To see my earlier versions, click HERE.
This was the first time I've tried the technique on mat black card stock. The stamps
that I used are stamped on black and heat embossed with gold. I outlined
the panel with gold metallic ink and wrapped with gold thread.
I had a left over panel and punched two sizes of holes and
added those here and there.

This is one of the stamps Laurel sent to me for the DT.
It is simply called 'canoe'. I stamped it using Tea Dye Distress Ink
on a small panel of tan card stock. It is colored with colored pencils. I distressed
the sentiment panel which is from the coordinated pack of papers
where I got the pine cone background paper. The flowers are from
a Christmas floral branch.

I've lots of stamping ahead of me in the next few days. I can't believe
that I'm doing 3 ATC swaps and making another Art Doll for a
personal exchange. Off now to choose the stamps that
I want to use.

Robyns Fetish Challenge Saturday

Scrapbook Page Sketch

You could win 3 images of your choice.
Just enter the challenge by
12 pm EST March 5th.

For this page I used the Pot O'Gold sticker from Robyns Fetish Shop.
And, you'll recognize the background paper from yesterday. I think it
is so pretty. My splash of color is a very stylized rainbow.
And it's true, my hubby and I have found our 'Pot O'Gold'
in our 30 years together.

I hope you visit the rest of the DT to see what they
did with the challenge. Also, Team Leader, Meredith,
is offering some wonderful Blog Candy.
All links in sidebar.

I was fortunate enough to meet Teresa in blogland.
She lives in Spain and is an artist at Squigglefly.
Trees aWard in Crafts is her personal blog where you
can find this unusual image 'the Ugly Sister'. Wait until you see her version of
it. What a treat. With that said....I'm submitting my card for
the following challenges.

Think Pink

Now this is a face that will make you swoon.
I just love her.

We are just all pinked out here on this card. Even the bit of lace
is pink. The Ugly Sister is a digital image and I made the
background paper digitally. She is colored with my Copics,
several shades of pink. I gave her jewelry by using gems....
she's a glamor puss you know.

Please check out my Soartful Challenge which
begins today. I have a Sampler each week of what
I call the "Extra Specials". I will be announcing the
winning name for stamps from our February sponsor
Scrolls Work. I'll also be introducing you to our
March sponsor.

And, Squigglefly has new releases available today.

TGIF is really a joke to me now since my retirement. Lorne
and I can never remember what day of the week it is. We just
have one happy day of retirement after another.
Yes, I'm very spoiled.

Image Provided

It took me a few days to think of something for this collage.
A lot of the original image is missing (see it here). What I did was
take the image and duplicate it a couple of times. Then I cropped out
the parts of the pics that I wanted to use. I found the arch which I thought
framed the ladies very nicely...then added back the title. Next came the
background. Uhm, it still needs something. The bird and leaves are
just the thing to finish this piece.

I wish our skies were as pretty and sunny as in the picture.
Chilly and gray here. I did have a fat mama Cardinal stop by
my front porch rail yesterday and we are hearing the hooty hooty
of the doves now. Maybe warm is not to far away.

The background started with a base paper of lovely
pastel shamrocks and horseshoes. I know horseshoes aren't really pretty.
I added the rainbow which is cropped from a larger paper.
The sentiment that I used was originally black which I changed
a blend of purple to green. I have tons of fibers so it really wasn't a
problem finding something that worked.
I like this background paper so much that I've used it again
on the challenge for Robyns Fetish tomorrow.

I'll be posting the new Soartful Challenge tomorrow also.
Tomorrow is also the Soartful participant drawing for the
person to win stamps from the wonderful Scrolls Work, our
sponsor for February. I'll also be introducing March's sponsor.
Everyone is always welcome at Soartful Challenges.

Buggin' the Girls

Vote for your favorite card at

Image Provided

I think this girl is so sweet. In fact, this is just one of the free images
for this challenge. The other is pretty cute, too.
I colored the image with Copics. All of the papers,
border and trim are from a set of lovely pastels
with a cooking theme. I don't know about in your area, but,
here in SC oranges are still really expensive.

I think the sample card done in Zetti style is so much fun.
It is by Julia who also has wonderful collage images available

Here are my twins for this challenge.

Oh, darn, that was a challenge for their Blog Hop which I
totally missed. Their current challenge is My Star Sign.
I'm a Gemini and this just won't work.
I'm liking this one a lot. The dragonfly is from Daisy Doodles.

I'm very excited today. I own the house in Redding, CA, where
my mother lived before moving to Montana. I put it up for
sale last Friday. I just accepted a very good offer on the place.
Yay! Let the escrow process begin. My brother just
moved the rest of Mom's belongings to Montana and
he left the house in tip top shape. Thank you Jimmy!!!
Mom is 89 years young and it had become difficult for her
to live alone. She is now living in Montana with my
I can't believe that it sold so quickly.
I'm doing the happy dance.

I used the beautiful image that I just won at the at

the card simple so the fairy is the star. Coordinating colored
card stock and a bit of shear yellow
ribbon and that's it.

This one little Wacky Weds FREEBIE fit the bill for
several challenges. Your freebie can be found at

I found this cute background with an Easter egg frame. And, I thought
perfect. I added the Linda Easter Girl freebie....ahh the magic of digi.

Spray Starch Technique

??? Have you been to the polls yet at the
Stop in and vote for your favorite card.
Voting ends 2/27.

Deb Lovett's Spray Starch Technique

This is a fun technique.
I used it for these challenges
Background Provided
Touchy Feely
Oops this was supposed to be an ATC, darn.

I started with the background provided by Art Creations.
I sprayed this liberally with spray starch then added
sprinkles of copper, gold and green Pearlex. I sort of swirled
the mixture around. Deb suggests that you use a brush but
I completely forgot that step. There was a pretty heavy coat
of starch so I grabbed a white sheet of glossy card stock and
laid it glossy side down on to the starch mix. Removed and
wow I had a pleasing pattern. I did it a second time with another
piece of glossy. It's sort of messy so be sure to prepare your
surface with layers of newspaper.
These were set aside to dry.
Complete details of this technique are available at ggdesigns Gazette.
Now comes the fun of turning my pretty papers into a card.
My first layer is the printed patterned card stock altered with
the technique. The next layer is gold vellum framing an altered
piece of the glossy. The key images were stamped on the altered
print and embossed with gold. The letters are gold stickers.

Crow Lady
Getting Messy Hands

I used another piece of the spray starched printed card stock for the base.
The background image and the crow from my Printmaster collection .
The princess is from Art Freebies . Most of the coloring is done with
colored pencil. I colored her crown with gold gel pen. A touch of
lace and my piece is finished.

I completely forgot to post about Robyns Fetish Marvelous Monday
sticker freebie. It's ready for you to grab and use. Check out the challenge
while you're there.

Squigglefly Monday

It's time to vote on your favorite cards at the
Please take a minute and take a look at all of the crafter's
beautiful creations and please VOTE. The polls are
open now until 2/27/10.

I usually cringe when I see a circle on a sketch. I don't really have anything
to use to easily cut circles. I'll have to get me a die for my new Cuttlebug.
Then I remembered this beautiful 'puffy flower' by Squigglefly artist
Angela Donato. This turned out to be not so difficult after all. The flowers are
colored in a mix to yellow, orange, red and a touch of brown chalk.
I placed them on a leaf with tape and pop dots. The dragonflies
are brads.
See ya at Squigglefly challenges.

This is an art doll that I just finished for a swap.

I missed the signup at Rubberstampchat Valentine Art Doll Swap. When I
boo hoo'd about it Darci was nice enough to offer to do a private swap with
me. How nice is that. She doesn't look like most of the art dolls I've seen...
they are usually pretty funky. But I like how she turned out. I've painted her
with pearescent watercolors. There are several different images all put
together to make one doll.
I just joined the Artful Paper Doll forum. I'm sure I'll find
lots of tips and techniques for making art dolls there.

And, A Cherry on Top

Or, as at my Soartful Challenges this week
Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries
The inspiration piece is in my sidebar and
this is what I made.

While looking for an image for the inspiration piece, I found
all of these cute shoes with cherries on them. So, my
Cherry tree is blooming shoes and cherries. What more
could a girl ask for.
Soartful is being sponsored this month by

That brings me to their new challenge blog

All of the stamps used on this piece are by Scrolls Work and Inka.
We have the main image, texture and tiny dragonflies all stamped
in Black Soot Distress Ink. Ivory card stock is used
for the base card. There is also a page from a book and an acetate
sheet of hand writing. The ribbons are self sticking (love that) and
the charms are from a bracelet found at a garage sale.
Beautiful stamps and a fun sketch challenge are all waiting for you
at Scrolls Work.

A Tag, Ticket or Label
Inspiration Challenge

I chose to make a tag. The RF inspiration image is the pretty
printed pillow case. Cropped it even more and added it to the image
of the bed. The precious girl Teddy is from Art Freebies. I used
the little boy Teddy here. The tag base is a lovely vintage print that
I altered the color on a bit and cropped out part of a flower for an
accent. Sweet!

I just found Shadowhouse Creations a wonderful place for
free texture backgrounds. There are also tutorials and beautiful
photos. Lots of beautiful things to see there.

Gel pens, glaze, etc.

You might win 3 images of your choice from Robyns Fetish Shop.
Take a peek at all Robyn has to offer.

Pink, Purple, Gray

The image that I used is Myrtle Mouse from Robyns Fetish. I colored
using my Copics and silver glitter gel pen.
I rummaged through my scraps and found some matching printed
paper to use on the gray card base. The sheer ribbon is pleated and stapled.
I hid the staple with fiber and added a premade pleated ribbon with pearls.
The sentiment is computer generated. I used pop dots to adhere little Myrtle.

This challenge is from now until 12 p.m. EST Friday 2/26.

The Girls

Girls rule today at H20 Creations

Our first girl to rule is Mel of Melztamps. Mel is
being featured every Friday in February at Squigglefly.
You can see all of Squigglefly's wonderful digi stamps here.
Mel is bringing us her lovely card using Squigglefly's Baby Bathing digi stamp.
It is a wonderful card with lots of detail. Follow Mel's link to find
out how she made this amazing card.

Now, on to more girls.

Tim Holtz
Say It In Sepia

I used the digi stamp 'Lady' that is a Freebie from Cuddly Buddly.
I've had this quite awhile just waiting for the right project.
This was the first time I've ever watercolored with Distress Inks from
Tim Holtz. It wasn't really hard to do but I did have problems blending.
But, overall I like how it turned out. I used these Distress Inks:
Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo and just a touch of Soot Black.

Our next girl is an expert swimmer.
using the image 'Lil Mermaid' from
This group is a membership only group of 50 crafters and
50 artists. The artists give us free digi stamps and we use as many as
we want. There is a monthly voting on the cards for a $$$ prize.
I'll be telling you where and when the voting begins.

For this card I started with a blue card stock base. I glued crumpled blue
tissue paper to the base card. I then made a few waves with glittery
blue sprinkles. Lil Mermaid is colored, mostly, with glitter gel pens.
I placed her on the scroll, think wave, with a pop dot. The sparkly gem
is one of those flat marbles that go in flower vases.

My last girl is a flower girl image provided by
There are always 2 digis available for each challenge.
I chose the sweet flower girl with her paint box.

I colored with Copics, cut out and adhered with pop dots to a matching
background panel. I added a flower and leaf and put all of this on
a gold card base.

Robyns Fetish Challenges is having a DT call.
Follow the link for all of the details.
Robyn also has a Forum that is open to all.
You are more than welcome to join.

I hope you enjoyed your visit with 'the Girls'.

Time to Fly

It was love at first sight when I saw this darling bird image.
This is Lola Bird by Stretch N Bubbles at the Special 50/50 Group.
I've used Lola Bird for the challenge
Red, Pink, Cream
Make a Card for a RAK

I printed 3 Lola Birds and colored them with my Copics.
I cut them out and added them to the red card stock. I love
this shade of red and the paper has a great texture. Added 3
flowers....because good things come in threes ya, know.
The sentiment is computer generated. Whoops one Lola
has a broken leg. Poor Baby.

Sew it Up
This is their very first challenge and
appropriately themed Stitches
Ebony & Ivory
They have just started a game of Bingo.
Follow their link for complete details.

I used Patch from Daisy Doodles. He came with stitches already.
I added a few more faux stitches on the sentiment.
I wanted to do paper piecing for the patches on the wings.
But they were just to small for me to deal with. I think that would
look so cute with different print papers used for the patches.
I'll print Patch out bigger next time and give that a try. The
sentiment is computer generated. A stitch in time leads us
to my next challenge entry.

Tax time will be here before we know it. On my last shopping trip
I picked up my tax software and I'm in the process of getting
This is a digi collage that took just a few minutes to put together
once I found the images. I wish I was that fast preparing my taxes.

sentiment stamp from Serendipity. I stamped using a a combination of
lavender, maroon and java chalk inks on clear vellum.

kisses and hugs. I made up the sentiment... The Princess said to the frog,
"if I kiss you will you be my Prince Charming?"

Digital Collage Anyone?

These digital collages have kept me busy at my computer
for the last couple of days. But, I have so much fun doing them.

The first collage is for the brand new
Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'
Image Provided

I'm not a big fan of his art but I do like the bright colors in his work.
I downloaded Starry Night and there I sat for quite awhile.
Nothing was coming to mind. Then I thought of Van Gogh's troubled life
and him cutting off his ear and then things started coming together.
I found the self portrait and then chose another Van Gogh painting
with matching colors. I fiddled with the placement until I found something
that pleased me. Added gold borders to each art piece to highlight each one.

Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras, Carnivale, Masquerade
Mardi Gras

My Mardi Gras parade.

My interpretation of exotic Egypt.

Oh dear, see that white blank at the should say
'with fear of electricity'. I wonder where it I cured?
This really isn't a very dark piece but I really wanted to use
the cute image from my friend Stef of Glitterbabe Greetings.
There is more to this cute drawing but I've cropped it to just
use the head. Not a very good job of cropping either. I had
intended to just leave her black and white but naw she needed
a bit of color. My Printmaster has painting brushes that I tried
for the very first time.

I'll be back tomorrow with a Wacky Weds Freebie and the Flutter By
Challenge. Flutter By has something special for you tomorrow.

I used the cute No Peking image by Chesney Young and colored with my Copics.

This is a just for fun card because I like this image from

I colored the main image with Copics and smudged the background a bit
with aqua blue pigment ink. I think the designer paper
and flowers are just the right colors.

The snow has all melted now. The newspaper sure had a big write up

Using Up Scraps

Anyone for Leftovers
Image Provided
Pick 3
Last week I made the Top 3 in the challenge
Thanks Denise
Use a Digital Stamp

My background panel is made using a technique I just read about
in my Cardmaker Magazine. All you do is glue a collage of
papers to a blank piece paper and presto a custom paper
in no time.

Have a Heart
Use Red

This is my last piece of this paper. It started as a scrap in an exchange
and there was enough for me to use it twice. My monogram is
colored with red permanent marker and covered with tiny beads.
There must be some trick that I don't know about making these
little things stay put. I used tacky glue. I added a heart made with
white netting, assorted ribbons and more netting and a paper rose.
I think I'll tie this on a box of chocolates for myself.

Blue & Orange

This is the last piece using a scrap of white card stock. The vase
was empty and I added the bouquet. The coloring is done
with Copics.

Yesterday, we went to Myrtle Beach's first ever Tech Show. It was
mostly for the trade but I picked up lots of info and goodies. In fact,
besides pens, note books, etc., I was given a very nice laptop carrying
bag. Now all I need is a laptop. But, I'm sure the bag will multi task.
We had a lovely lunch with a view of the beach on one side and the
main tourist street of Myrtle Beach on the other. Lots of fun
people watching. The ocean just sparkled in the sun.
Next, is the watercolor exhibit in North Carolina and
then the Antique Apron Exhibit at the local museum.

They are predicting 2" to 4" of snow here tonight. Myrtle Beach
doesn't get snow. What's going on?
What ever it is I don't like it.

Tomorrow is Robyns Fetish New Realease Blog Hop and challenge.
I hope you come back and hop with us.

I Think It's Thursday

Yep, I just checked the beautiful calendar that my daughter, Susan,
sends every year. February's page is a picture taken at Yosemite.
Can you believe it, I'm a native Californian and I've never been to Yosemite.

One little 2 1/2 " x 3 1/2" ATC qualifies for all of these challenges.
Reading Books
The image of the book is from Art Freebies. On the blank page
I added the text and the romantic image from my collection.

The next 2 cards are for the Special 50/50 Group a members
only group that is created of 50 artists that supply the free images
and 50 crafters that use these free images for the group challenges.

My first card uses the image Tequila from Bugaboo.

I placed my drinking buddy on the floor next to the chair that she
she fell from. The text reads ' One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila,
floor. The sentiment comes with the image. I colored with
Copics, practiced using my border punch and added the flower.

Next, for the Special 50/50 and
Lace & Fibers
Note: There is a fabulous tutorial up on adding dimension
with fiber. Follow the Gingersnap link.

Now, I could have used this technique when I made this
card using Stamping Dragons Design Twenties Lady.
You can see that all I did to color her was smudge her with ink.
I liked the effect of just leaving the outside the lines smudges.
The flower, lace, pearls and tassel are all from my stash.

Image Provided

I cropped and changed the color of the image before adding
it to my background. I also added the music and sentiment.
The beautiful designer paper came from Zazzle as a freebie.

Do you use ribbon as an embellishment? Here is a link from
my friend Stef that I think got it from Debby, my team mate at
Flutter By Weds challenges and Squigglefly challenges. It is
Really Reasonable Ribbon. Wonderful selection at good prices.

Speaking of Flutter By challenges Danni just asked me if I'd like
to change my status from Guest DT to Regular DT member.
Of course, I said YES. See our current challenge here.
