Yes, my life is in transition. I am now getting used to life as a widow. What will this bring? Time will tell.

His Master's Voice

Have you ever heard of Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day?
Not me but the Rainbow Lady has.   Her challenge theme this week is Dogs.
 I chose Nipper listening for
His Master's Voice for my subject.

Sunshine and Darkness

Let's get to the sunshine first because our weather here is simply perfect.
The days are warm and balmy with a hint of rain in the air.
A perfect match of warmth and humidity.

This week we were given a lovely assortment of hands to use for
inspiration.   I chose to work with the hand sculpture.

Now, the Darkness.

Anything Goes Keep it Dark
Blending and Layering

My Dwarf Brown Turkey Fig is starting to bud.

I guess it loves this beautiful weather as much as I do.
I didn't know if it was going to make it this year.
While I was in Montana last September my hubby didn't
give it the TLC that it is used to from me.

Sacred Stones

Sacred Stones

My piece is arranged around these gorgeous crystals that I Googled.

And, you know how it is when you start thing leads to another.
The name Vina, CA, came up in connection to Sacred Stones project.   I clicked on to
see what on earth was in tiny (pop. 237) Vina, CA.   This town is not all that
far from where I grew up in Redding, CA.   I found this very interesting article
Hearst purchased a 12th Century Spanish Monastery to rebuild stone by
stone for his mother's summer home near Mr. Shasta, CA.   These are
the very same stones now found in the rebuilding of the Chapter House
Some of the stones are used in the landscaping in the Botanical Gardens
in Golden State Park.

Abandoned stones in Golden State Park

All these years later, the Chapter House is near completion.

Truth be told.....I wish I were there.
Peggy at Friday Foto Collage gave us several inspiration pieces
to use.   I chose the map and the fleur de lie papers.
Thinking of Paris

Kraft, Red, Pink

Carla gave us inspiration papers to use also.   I chose to use my own.

Just a quickie post .  Today we are re-arranging furniture.
Oh, my poor aching back tonight.

Mardi Gras

For the Rainbow Lady's Mardi Gras challenge.

Have you ever wondered what happens to all of the beads after Mardi Gras?
Melted Bead Lamps
Mural made with beads
I've never been to Mardi Gras but I did spend a glorious few
days in New Orleans.   Years ago we took a Commordore Cruise
that departed from New Orleans and added on 4 days in
New Orleans for sightseeing.

By today's cruise standards
this line surely wouldn't measure up.   But, we thoroughly
enjoyed our cruise experience with them.   Commodore has since
gone bankrupt and the Enchanted Isle was scrapped in 2004.

If you ever get the chance to visit New Orleans I highly recommend it.
Beautiful sites, wonderful music and marvelous food.
When we visit a new city we like to tour the city.   Sometimes
we use a Tour Group but most times we take public transportation.
One of the best things we did was take the  St. Charles Ave
Streetcar thru the Garden District of New Orleans.

It was a great way to explore.

Even a New Orleans cemetery is beautiful

Did I mention food?

Beignet and Coffee
Muffuletta sandwich

Beautiful and yummy, too.

I Have Digitalmania

I seem to have put my rubber stamps away for awhile.
I'm in love with digi.

At Digitalmania this week our inspiration is the art of Cathy Horner.
Her collage work is really fun, and yes, inspiring.
My two completed digital collages.

The majority of the images used are from Diviant Scrap.

Brush Strokes

These two projects were so much fun to do.

First, Everybody Art Challenge - Calendar

Using a calendar for the main theme had me stumped at first.
Then it came to me......I see "Be Creative Everyday"  used on
so many art blogs that I visit.   Uhmmmm, works for me.

Creating "Outside the Frame" with Three Muses Challenge.
We are to overlap an image on the frame.
I like the effect of the image a bit out of the frame.
The sample piece is really beautiful.  See it here.

It is just getting light out now and the early birds are beginning to chirp.
I love this time of the morning.   My craft room windows look out
on a huge hickory tree.  This tree is a favorite of the birds and squirrels.
I love to watch the squirrels and their antics.  I do have a couple of problems
with them and the hickory nuts they love so much.  Our front
porch is always littered with empty shells.   They sit on the railing
and nibble away then casually leave the mess for me to clean up.
They also dig perfectly round holes about 1" across and bury the
hickory nuts.   Every Spring I have to go around and pull unwanted
hickory trees from my grass and front flower bed.

Even potted plants are fair game.
I'm always surprised at how many of them sprout.

Until next time......

Vintage Fruit

The Word this week at Take A Word is ATC.
They also specified that it should be old fashioned.

Last of the Hearts

It's Valentine's Week at Sunday Postcard Art
My Heart Belongs to You

My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day by having
our favorite Bojangles Chicken for dinner.  It was so
yummy and no dishes to do.

Home is Where the Heart Is

4 x 4 Friday
Heart and House

My house is nothing cute and quaint like this one.
It is a modest home in a very nice 55+ community.
One of my favorite things is my home's location.

We are a hop, skip and a jump from a lovely beach.

My favorite room in the house is my craft room.

Here, I'm just moving in and getting organized.

I share my home with the love of my life and my favorite handyman.
 Meet my husband, Lorne.

We've had 30 happy years together and I hope to have many, many more.

I really don't know what possessed me to move to the East Coast.
My children are both out West and I don't see them nearly often enough.
Except for my heart wandering off to the West at times, my home is
where you will find my heart.

Will You Be My Valentine?

I'll be yours.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.

Today I'm sharing my creation for Just For Fun Thurs
continuing on with their month long theme of men.
This is for the Vintage Man challenge

Visit Just For Fun for their tutorial on
Mono Printing with a Brayer.
It's quick and easy and very effective.

This project is for Digitalmania.   We are to digitally
create in the style of Maggie Taylor.

The Dance

Yesterday was three hours getting my iron infusion.   But, you know,
I can already tell the difference.   Yayyyyyyy!!!!

Elegant Torso

Torso Tags

What a fun theme to work with.   I even used some of my new
digital collage items from Deviant Scrap.   I used a torso and feathers
from Midnight Cinderella.

Today is a good day for me.   My tired, listless, anemic days are about to end.
I get an iron infusion that will perk me right up.   I don't know why
my body doesn't keep my iron stores up to normal levels but it
doesn't.    In the past there has been about a year between infusions.
This time I went almost three years.    So a couple of hours in a
recliner having energy giving iron drip into my vein and I'll be a
new woman.

Coffee Coffee Coffee

I was never much of a coffee drinker until I took a trip to
Mexico in the 60s.   Oh, yummy?  They served their coffee with
hot milk, Cafe' con Leche.   I was hooked.   Also got a little sick but that's another story.
I now enjoy my coffee with a dribble or two of half and half.
Another Mexican coffee treat is to add a sprinkle or two of
cinnamon before you brew.

Tangerine Tango

The challenge at Collage Obsession this week is to use
Pantone's Color of the Year for 2012

This is the color for fashion and home decor this year.
I decided to explore this bright color in architecture.
I found so many tangerine colored buildings across our country like
this brightly painted garage.

In my Google travels, I discovered a wonderful Street in Detroit with
fab fun brightly painted homes as an art project.
Visit the homes of the Heidelberg Project, here.
This amazing project was begun in 1986 and has turned this
run down area of Detroit into a not to be missed place to see.

Hearts of Love

February is the month for hearts and love.
I have this piece that I completed for
4 x 4 Friday - Valentine's Day
Rainbow Lady - Have a Heart

I can just hear this guy whispering in her ear "will you be mine?"
What do you think her answer will be?

Sunday Postcard Art gave us the theme
Classic Movies for this week's challenge.
I chose the black and white classic Gaslight  with
Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman and Joseph Cotton.
Also appearing is a very young Angela Lansbury.

Since I'm always losing track of time, I totally missed the
deadline for 4 x 4 Friday.   Now, I had to look this one up....
Imbolc.  This tradition is called by many names and is celebrated
mid winter in preparation for Spring.

But all is not lost, this week Inspiration Avenue has a similar
theme for their challenge.

I was out in the yard yesterday and my Azaleas are starting to bloom.
Our area is so beautiful when the Azaleas and Dogwood are
both in bloom.

Nooooooo, this isn't my yard but it is a beautiful example of
the Azaleas and Dogwood in bloom.

A Kiss to You

The inspiration at Soartful Challenge
is Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe's short note to her husband, Alfred Steiglitz.
Who also took this beautiful photo of her.

Red Canna

"I found I could say things with colors that I couldn't say in any other way -- things that I had no words for."

Black and Red

Just for Fun is having a whole month of men for February.
Our first theme is Black and White.
I love using black and white, that's all and good.   But I want
to know why it is so difficult to design for a man?   Is it because we
are reluctant to use flowers or ribbons?    Well, I have a whole
month to practice.

Rainbow Lady has asked us to Wear Red for this
challenge theme.

The image of Little Red Riding Hood is from an old children's picture book.
I really like red and beige so I used it here.

Here it is Sunday again and my favorite day of the week.
After my breakfast over the Sunday paper I need to get
some yard waste out to the curb.   Monday is our pick up day.
I had this all ready last week and the wind blew my bag of
leaves and pile of trimmings all down the street.
What a mess to go gather it all up.
Here's to better luck today.

This week's challenge at
Three Muses is Musical Instruments.

My mother had me take piano lessons when I was about 9.
What torture for both of us.  Musical I'm not.
She soon found that out and put us both out of our misery by
stopping the piano lessons.

My simple piece honoring the piano.

Here Comes that Darker Side of Me Again

I have two challenge pieces to share with you today.

The first is for Macabre Monday
Shot through the Heart

This heart is on the mend.   Maybe someday it will even get it's
vibrant red color back.

This challenge is new to me but looks interesting.
In his own (Poe's) image

Well, that's about enough darkness for one day.
Back to my more cheerful side tomorrow.

Magic Mushrooms

Maybe fantasy mushrooms would be better.   Although, my mind
might have been a bit altered when I created this piece.
Crazy Amigo Challenge

The lovely woman sitting on the mushroom is from
*itkupilli*.   Everything else is from my clip art collection.
I didn't know if the tall globe thingies were going to work
but I loved the colors, so in they went.

My wonderful hubby did the vacuuming yesterday.
He's a keeper still after 30 years of marriage.
Oh, and he cooks, too.
